Manchester United defender Millie Turner knocked out Adidas for taking a wrong photo – despite having been an athlete with the US giants for the past two years.

Turner took to social media to highlight the mistake that was part of the company’s promotion of the new United kit.

A photo of Turner was titled Amy Turner, a player who had been at United for three years before signing for Orlando Pride last month.

The 25-year-old expressed her frustration on Twitter, writing: “Considering I have been at Manchester United for 3 years and have been an adidas athlete for 2 … You would like to think Adidas would get my name correctly”.

Adidas messed up Millie Turner’s name in their branding

The tweet went viral with thousands of fans and players interacting and commenting on the post.

Former United player Jess Sigsworth wrote: “An exceptional player, an exceptional person and they still cannot get her name properly. #BetterDoBetter

The star Adidas mistook for Turner for, Amy Turner, mocked the company, writing: “‘NEVER FORGET WHERE YOU CAME FROM’ We have to do better!”

And Blackburn Rovers star Natasha Fenton wrote: “It’s like big brands just ‘support’ and ‘promote’ female athletes. It feels like they’re doing it just because society says so. Shame on you adidas. “

There have been a lot of changes in United’s women’s squad lately and it’s not just Amy Turner who has left the club.

Players Sigsworth and Jane Ross have left and star striker Lauren James is set to sign for women’s Super League champions Chelsea. Manager Casey Stoney has also been gone in recent months.

Key to the club’s success has been Stoney, who has now been appointed manager of the new National Women’s Football League San Diego club.

She was named boss when the women’s team was founded in 2018 and led the team to championship glory in her debut season to win promotion to the Women’s Super League.

They have since finished fourth in the WSL in campaigns 19/20 and 20/21. The team also managed to secure two World Cup winners at Christen Press and Tobin Heath for the 20/21 season.

The players who remain at United have been without a manager since May and The Athletic reported earlier this month that the stars are ready to contact the Professional Footballers’ Association on where the team is heading.

They are reportedly set to seek advice on how to improve the club’s approach to the women’s team. United announced in 2018 that they would be upgrading the facilities at The Cliff’s training ground, but work has yet to take place.

United will need to work quickly to name a new manager and create unity within the squad as the WSL season resumes on September 3.
